Karenna,

I was interested in your poster because I had never heard of the term "sacrifice zones" before. After reading I can definitely tell where the term comes from and why they are seen as that. In reality, it can be a bit freighting too. Do you think there will ever be an effective solution?

Hi Kareena,

As someone who has wanted to learn more about environmental justice, but didn't where to start, this poster was very informational. I didn't originally realize that sacrifice zones were directly related to people of color or lower-income communities, but now that I think of it, the whole Flint, Michigan situation and the oil pipeline through indigenous land seem to fit the profile of the government not caring about poor environmental choices affecting already disadvantaged communities. It's quite unfortunate that newer generations of people will have to suffer unknown effects of living in these sacrifice zones.

Hi Karenna, your poster really helped me get a better understanding of an issue I was already very interested in. I recently had a conversation with a MD delegate who grew up in a poor town that was exploited by Monsanto. He ended up with cancer in his 30s. Many people don't understand that the effects of environmental racism are generational. In your opinion, how will this affect future generations of those living in sacrifice areas?

Hi Karenna! Your poster caught my attention because I wanted to learn what a sacrifice zone is. I think your research highlights how racism is something ingrained in so many American structures and systems. Connecting environmental health to our physical health, do you think communities of color that become sacrifice zones contribute to health care disparities observed in different areas?

Hi Karenna. This really caught my attention by sacrifice zones were something I had never heard of before. Learning about sacrifice zones as a whole was very interesting as well as scary that something like these could exist. Have you ever visited such a place firsthand?
