Working at this law office has provided me with a great hands-on experience and has made me discover what it is like to work as a private attorney who is in charge of their own firm.
This poster describes my in-person experience interning for Attorney Richard Basile and his paralegal at the Law Office of Richard Basile. Altogether, this was an amazing internship which allowed me to explore my interest in the law while furthering my critical thinking skills. Many of my tasks included drafting motions, interrogatories, and requests for production, taking an active role in hearings to screen share exhibits, and communicating with clients via phone, email, and in-person. Working at this law office has provided me with a great hands-on experience and has made me discover what it is like to work as a private attorney who is in charge of their own firm. This past semester has revealed aspects of the legal field that I had yet to learn in my undergraduate experience, which enhanced my knowledge and solidified my passion in wanting to become an attorney. Throughout this experience, I was able to identify comparisons between the Justice and Legal Thought program and the internship itself. Since the internship was in-person, I was able to witness firsthand how the attorney provided legal assistance to several individuals in the Greenbelt community who came from a disadvantaged socioeconomic background. There was a key focus implemented on assisting individuals regardless of the situation they faced or where they came from. Overall, the firm works every day to arrange effective counsel so that these individuals can obtain the justice they deserve rather than be turned away due to a monetary barrier. I would highly recommend this internship to anyone interested in the law because it is a great way to observe how the law functions in action and learn about the different types of the law an individual can pursue.
Hey Cynthia! As a student who is potentially interested in attending law school, I was curious to hear about your experience interning with a law firm. It's great to hear about all the work you did during your internship, especially getting to talk to clients directly! What kind of clients did you usually deal with on a day to day basis?
Hi Cynthia,
This internship stood out to me because i have worked in a courtroom before, and so I an interested in seeing the private side of legal aid. I learned a lot about how the private sector of law works to help disadvantaged communities, and specifically the work that you as an intern had to do. What was the most difficult part of this internship?
Cynthia,
I think the title really stood out to me. Interning at a law office seems like one of the best internships you can get when studying law. I think this really gives a picture on what its like to work at a law office because behind closed doors its a mystery. Is there a specific firm you want o maybe work with or do you see yourself working with them or interning with them again?
Hi Cynthia, what stood out to me from your poster was the opportunity you had to work at a law office. I've always wanted to know what I'd be like to work in a law environment and from your poster in the way you've detailed your activities and your impact, I definitely have a clear picture. Has this internship experience helped you to define what type of law you'd like to study or practice in the future? Also, what challenges did you face as an intern in this law firm and how did they help you grow or learn more about the law and its relation to society?
Hi Cynthia! Your project really stood out to me since I've always been interested in interning for a law firm. I learned about the specific responsibilities law interns have and how you were able to make an impact with your position. What advice would you give to someone interested in interning at a law firm?
