Hey Emily! I learned about gerrymandering in my U.S. Congress this semester, so I thought this project was extremely relevant (in addition to the U.S. census results and redistricting this year). I am not as aware of Maryland political districts, so I was not aware the degree to which Maryland is gerrymandered. Do you think this is likely to be fixed soon?

This poster caught my eye because we are currently discussing the impact of political gerrymandering in one of my classes. In class we did not discuss the impact of gerrymandering on voter turnout but more so how it is negatively increasing partisanship in today's society. I wonder how much recent elections would've been impacted if voter turnout was increased universally with the effects of gerrymandering still in play.

Hi Emily,

I loved your project, I was drawn to it because I am currently learning a lot about gerrymandering. Something I learned was that there is a very strong relationship between gerrymandering and voter turnout, as explained in your findings. How do you think we can solve this issue?

I chose your poster because gerrymandering is a big issue. Especially in Maryland. Maryland is a heavily gerrymander state, as well as many others. It is pretty obvious that Maryland is gerrymandered. The districts make no sense. It caught my attention when you wrote about how gerrymandering is essentially equivalent of suppressing the vote. Do you think that the Supreme COurt should rule that gerrymandering is unconstitutional.

Hi Emily,

I was drawn to your research as it the same topic that we have been discussing in MLAW150. I learned that gerrymandering has a significant impact on voter turnout and the problems associated with that. What do you think the solution is to stop gerrymandering?
