Hi Yemi! Your project stood out as a project that is extremely timely and relevant. I thought it was incredibly interesting how the BLM movement is not nearly covered as much on news channels or other sources of media as social media. How can we combat misinformation on both social media, but also regular news channels?

Hi Yemi,

I think that your research is such a timely one and one that many people need to start taking seriously. I think that as a society, we all underestimate the power of social media and don't realize how powerful and influential it has become. I completely agree with you when it comes to developing methods where false information is caught early on and not spread to where it becomes misinformation, considering how fast it can spread. Do you think that we as a society have become too reliant on social media? Or is it a tool that we must all learn to use in moderation.

This project stood out to me because the Black Lives Matter movement has gotten a lot of media coverage but has unfortunately also become a subject of debate and contention. As such, I wanted to understand why that was and how misinformation has contributed to that. From viewing your poster I was very surprised to learn that older people are more likely to fact check their sources than young people. Why do you think that is?

Hi Yemi! Your project really stood out to me since I think social media's impact on political activism and social movements is an incredibly relevant topic. I learned that less than 50% of people actually fact-check information they learn on social media. What do you believe is the best solution to combat the increase in misinformation via social media?

Hi Yemi, your research is super interesting! I've always known that there is a possibility that whatever I was reading on Twitter was completely wrong or framed with bias, but I don't really take that into consideration when I read the news (on Twitter) everyday. Like the fast-growing BLM movement, how do we fact-check new information as it is being reported? Who can we trust as fact-checkers?
