Victor Cullen Internship Experience

By Michael Concepcion, Justice and Legal Thought

The purpose of where I completed my capstone research was to help change kids behaviors so the can go back into society and become leaders in their communities. After my impact at VCC I believed I was able to help change these teens behavior and better themselves for their futures to come.

At the beginning of my internship I went in nervous not knowing what to expect at VCC. I wasn’t worried about the work they had me doing at the internship but instead how my interactions with the teens would be on a daily basis. Before my internship I was warned about the dangers to my safety that could entail this internship. So, every day I had to be very alert for any surprises that could possibly endanger me. With them being so close in age to myself this led to me having a challenging start. But over time I started to build meaningful relationships with each of the teens and understand them better when it came to their needs and what got them here. Most of the time people would write off these types of teens as troubled youth and blame their circumstances all on them. But after you hear each teens individual story you realize its also based on the hand they were dealt in life and the environment they were raised in. The purpose of where I completed my capstone research was to help change kids behaviors so the can go back into society and become leaders in their communities. After my impact at VCC I believed I was able to help change these teens behavior and better themselves for their futures to come. This is very important to make this type of impact early so these teens can change now instead of making these mistakes again in the future when they are adults and the stakes are a lot higher.
