The extent to which our government possess control is a constant question that affects almost every aspect of our lives. This project focuses a large portion on addressing government control especially when it comes to bodily possession. I will question the legality of government forcing things, such a vaccination on individuals in order to benefit the wellbeing of the majority and provide herd immunity. For example, in 2016 California implemented law SB277 stating that parents no longer had to option to medically excuse their children from receiving vaccinations if they wanted to attend public school. My practicum goes further into addressing the question of how much government is too much by looking at philosophers’ ideas and laws created surrounding this topic.

Aray, I feel like your project is so relevant and maybe even more so now in the midst of a pandemic when we are trying to access the government and its resources without influencing precedent. How would your research interact with this time?
Hi Araya! Your poster stood out to me because of the intriguing title. This is a very interesting discussion with many different viewpoints and ways of interpreting it. Ultimately, I completely agree with your conclusion that governments do possess control in deciding these matters. Even though we live in the "free world", the government should have the right to make decisions that benefit the most amount of people in the country that it can. Do you think that every state should pass a law like California did?
Hi Araya, you’re poster is interesting to me because the question of privacy/gov control is one that is very controversial and important. Evidently we are told in some aspects that our bodies our choice, and it’s very interesting to see how that may not always be true (especially when it comes to public health). I definitely agree that these vaccines should be mandated, as they have serious and vital roles in protecting the public. I think it’s also important to enforce this, because often times vaccines are only effective in a population of everyone gets them. Especially now with the covid-19 crisis, do you think public option will lead towards more people accepting mandated vaccinations?
Hi Araya! I was intrigued by your poster due to its discussion of government jurisdiction when it comes to individuals and their bodies. I strongly agree with your eventual conclusion concerning the government's right to enforce vaccinations for the greater good. People have individual liberties to do what they want until their actions infringe on the rights of others. A question I have is about your choice of philosophers; while the four whose viewpoints you considered are all very important in history, you did not consider John Rawls, a man considered one of the most influential philosophers of our time. I believe that a Rawlsian perspective would also support your conclusion! Thank you for an engaging display. Great work!
I was interested in this poster because I have always believed especially in our nation today that the government does at times seem to have an overbearing power and influence on our lives. I never knew that our government had so much power over our bodily possession, to the point where the had enacted the SBB227 law in California. Parents should have all the say in what happens to their child especially in their choice of whether to give them vaccinations or not. And for it to impact their public education which should be offered to all children regardless of vaccination or not is simply unjust One question I have for you is what steps of protest have been taken…
