The best thing that we can do for our school systems is focus on what is in the best interest of the students and in my opinion this program would be a great first step to offering these children an even better education then they are already receiving.
This semester I took part in an internship program called Excel Beyond the Bell. The school that I work at is a Montgomery County School called Roscoe Nix Elementary. The work that we do there is centered around creating a safe and open environment for students of all backgrounds and learning styles to learn and play. The program also has teacher volunteers from schools in the area that want to spend their afternoons helping these students craft better discipline and study skills. The program not only incorporates fun activities, but provides these students with homework help and extra lesson plans for them to get a better grasp of the necessary material for their age. I feel that this is a great program that should be implemented in schools all across Maryland and offered me a great deal of knowledge about how to manage children. The thing that makes this program so unique is that it is tailored to offer students that have difficulty learning in a standard classroom and teaching style. They incorporate learning styles that are suited for each child and the children never feel bored. This program is cost effective and would provide students with structure and offers them the ability to learn great communication skills outside of the classroom as well. The best thing that we can do for our school systems is focus on what is in the best interest of the students and in my opinion this program would be a great first step to offering these children an even better education then they are already receiving.
This poster stood out to me because of its attention to experiences outside of the education environment. I had seen some posters discussing equity in the education system, but this poster took a deeper look at these inequities and what you can do about it. I learned that addressing racial and economic divides between students early is imperative. It was interesting to learn how this experience fits in with your career goals in the healthcare field!
